EBRD is an international development bank investing in projects that support the transition to market economies across nearly 40 economies on three continents.
The EBRD is an international financial institution, a development bank that invests in projects supporting the transition to successful market economies and delivering systemic economic change across borders. Since inception it has invested over €220 billion in more than 7,800 projects, and it now operates across nearly 40 economies on three continents. Its headquarters are in London, with local offices throughout its regions of operation.
Two lines of work define the portfolio. Project investment and financing combines financial expertise with deep regional knowledge to generate systemic impact. Climate finance operations embed sustainability at the core of the bank's activity: all EBRD activities are aligned with the Paris Agreement, and the institution describes itself as a majority green bank. The sectors it engages include finance, government and the public sector, business and the private sector, civil society and the green economy.
Staff work in teams drawn from dozens of countries and come from backgrounds in finance, climate finance and sustainability, engineering, law, policy and regional market knowledge. The bank cites diversity of thought and international collaboration, transparency and accountability, and commitment to multiparty democracy and open dialogue as operating principles. Work is conducted across borders and is intended to be driven by purpose and integrity.
