Tiko is an African non-profit using a technology platform to connect girls in six countries, including Nigeria, to free, quality-assured sexual and reproductive health services.
Tiko is an African non-profit founded in 2014 that uses technology to improve sexual and reproductive health for underserved girls in urban and peri-urban Africa. It operates in six countries, including Nigeria, and builds local health ecosystems that connect girls to stigma-free, no-cost, quality-assured services through a network of community-based organisations, healthcare providers and retail partners. The organisation also maintains a presence in Europe, with offices in Portugal, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Its core product is the Tiko technology platform, which links these partners to the girls they serve. The platform handles referrals, verifies that services were delivered, facilitates payments and generates real-time data used to measure impact and improve health outcomes over time. The technical work spans health technology platforms, referral systems, service-delivery verification, payments facilitation, and data analytics and impact measurement.
Tiko focuses on what it describes as the “Triple Threat” facing adolescent girls: unintended pregnancy, HIV infection, and sexual and gender-based violence. It partners with governments, health providers and local community-based organisations to deliver services at no cost to users. The organisation is an Audacious Project awardee and is regarded as one of the fastest-growing NGOs in the sector.
