WAPCo owns and operates the ~678 km West African Gas Pipeline, transporting natural gas from Itoki, Nigeria to power plants and industrial customers in Benin, Togo and Ghana.
The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) is a joint venture that owns and operates the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), an offshore natural gas transmission system running approximately 678 kilometres from Itoki, Nigeria to Takoradi, Ghana. The pipeline supplies power plants and industrial customers in Benin, Togo and Ghana, making it one of the region's principal pieces of cross-border energy infrastructure. In Nigeria, WAPCo's operations begin at the Itoki terminal, the pipeline's point of origin.
WAPCo operates the WAGP as an open-access system, allowing multiple shippers to transport gas safely and reliably through a single network. The company's technical work spans midstream pipeline operations, pipeline integrity and safety management, and health, environment and safety (HSE) management, alongside the day-to-day running of a subsea asset serving four countries.
Headquartered in Accra, Ghana, WAPCo maintains field offices across West Africa, including in Nigeria. The company states priorities of operational excellence, rigorous HSE standards, and environmental protection across its operations. It also supports local communities through corporate social responsibility and community development programmes, and positions its business around cleaner energy supply and regional energy integration.
