At Eni, we are looking for an Operations Geologist to join Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd. in Abuja. You will be responsible for providing geological support to drilling, completion and production operations by integrating subsurface geological data to ensure the safe, efficient and economically optimised delivery of wells and exploitation of reservoirs. The role is responsible for real-time geological evaluation and decision-making during well operations, ensuring that wells are drilled and completed in line with approved geological and reservoir objectives.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time geological support during drilling operations, including wellsite monitoring and geological interpretation.
  • Analyse and interpret cuttings, cores, mud logs, wireline logs, LWD/MWD data, and other geological information to evaluate formations and reservoir quality.
  • Monitor and interpret gas readings, lithology, formation pressure, and drilling parameters to identify geological changes and potential wellbore risks.
  • Correlate geological information with existing subsurface models and offset wells to support well placement and trajectory decisions.
  • Provide timely geological recommendations to the Drilling, Reservoir Engineering, Geophysics, and Well Engineering teams.
  • Support geosteering and optimal well placement to maximise reservoir exposure and production potential.
  • Identify and evaluate hydrocarbon shows, reservoir intervals, formation tops, and fluid contacts during drilling.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of well prognoses, geological programmes, and end-of-well reports.
  • Ensure the accurate acquisition, quality control, interpretation, and documentation of wellsite geological data.
  • Participate in well planning, formation evaluation, logging, and coring programmes.
  • Support the identification and management of geological hazards and uncertainties that may impact drilling operations and well integrity.
  • Liaise with wellsite geologists, drilling contractors, logging contractors, and other service providers to ensure the effective delivery of geological activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date geological databases and ensure all acquired data are properly validated and archived.
  • Provide geological input to field development planning, reservoir characterisation, and production optimisation.
  • Contribute to post-well evaluations and lessons learned to improve future drilling and development campaigns.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with applicable HSE requirements, company procedures, and technical standards.

Skills and experience required:

  • BSc or MSc in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Surface Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Significant relevant experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Drilling & Completion: Advanced drilling; completion activities; drilling activities; rigless high-profile completion and workover operations; high-profile drilling.
  • Exploration: Basin assessment and screening; geological data integration and interpretation; geophysical data interpretation; prospect generation and evaluation.
  • Geology: Experimental petrophysics; geochemistry; petrography; petrophysics; reservoir characterisation; rock mechanics; sedimentology; stratigraphy; structural geology; well data acquisition and evaluation.
  • Geophysics: AVO and geophysical interpretation; borehole seismics; cartography, topography and geodesy.
  • Global: Data management; E&P business management; tendering and contracting.
  • HSEQR: Integrated HSE processes and safety.
  • Project Management: General project management.
  • Reservoir: Reservoir modelling; well production optimisation.
  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, communication, decision-making, and adaptability skills.
