Global Citizen

Global Citizen is an advocacy platform mobilising a worldwide community to end extreme poverty and address climate change and inequality, with offices in Nigeria and nine other cities.

Global Citizen is an advocacy platform and movement that mobilises a global community to end extreme poverty and defend the planet, focusing on poverty, climate change and inequality. The organisation runs an office in Nigeria, one of ten locations worldwide that also include New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Berlin, Melbourne, Toronto and South Africa. It operates across four continents, with a community numbering in the tens of millions.

The work rests on a digital advocacy platform where members learn about systemic racial, ethnic, gender, sexual and economic inequalities and take collective action to address them. Community members have taken more than 42.9 million actions; funds distributed to partner organisations total more than $49 billion, and an estimated 1.3 billion lives have been impacted. Technical work spans digital advocacy platforms, online community mobilisation, action-rewards engagement technology, and campaign and petition technology.

Engagement is gamified: members earn rewards for taking action, including the Global Citizen Festival, an experiential reward. The culture is mission-driven and collective, built on a belief in "one world, one people" where everyone has an equal chance to thrive, with a stated commitment to diversity, equity and overcoming racial, ethnic, gender, sexual and economic inequalities. Teams are distributed across four continents, and the organisation works through a collaborative, partner-oriented model that channels funds to partner organisations.
