Nigerian Women Trust Fund
A nonpartisan Nigerian non-profit founded in 2011 that works to increase women's representation and participation in governance across all 36 states and the FCT through research, advocacy, grant-making and leadership programmes.
The Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) is a nonpartisan, non-profit organisation founded in 2011 to increase women's representation and participation in Nigeria's governance system at all levels. Working across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, it supports women from grassroots activists to aspiring political leaders through capacity building, mentorship and strategic interventions. Its stated vision is a Nigeria in which women and men engage equally in governance.
The organisation's work is organised around four thematic areas: Governance, Gender and Leadership, which delivers programming to raise women's participation in governance; Research, Advocacy and Documentation, which examines gender imbalance in elective and appointive positions; Fundraising and Grant-Making, which mobilises and disburses resources to support women's political participation; and Organizational Effectiveness, which builds internal capacity to deliver on the mission. Together these areas combine evidence, funding and practical training.
Operating for over a decade across the country, the Nigerian Women Trust Fund collaborates with international partners including UN Women, the European Union and regional bodies. Its stated focus is gender-inclusive governance as an element of national development, within the wider fields of civil society, public policy and political participation.
